Root Canal Treatment

What is a Root Canal and why do I need one?

Root canal treatment is a dental procedure used to remove infected or inflamed pulp (the soft tissue inside the tooth that contains nerves and blood vessels). The treatment is necessary when the pulp becomes infected or inflamed due to deep decay, repeated dental procedures, or trauma to the tooth. A root canal helps save teeth that would otherwise need to be extracted.

What happens during Root Canal Treatment?

During the procedure, the endodontist removes the infected or damaged pulp, cleans and disinfects the inside of the tooth, and then seals it to prevent recontamination.

Is a Root Canal Treatment painful?

Despite its reputation, root canal treatment is generally painless and isn’t more painful than a regular dental procedure, such as a filling. Often, patients have relief from discomfort after treatment. However, a root canal can result in mild discomfort including soreness or numbness for a few days after the procedure.
