ENDODONTIC SURGERY (APICOECTOMY)

What is Endodontic Surgery (Apicoectomy) and why do I need one?

An Endodontic Surgery is a surgical endodontic procedure in which the infected tissue and root tip (apex) of a tooth are removed. In cases where initial root canal treatment or retreatment does not completely resolve the infection, a surgical approach may be required. CBCT (3D imaging) is utilized for treatment planning and performing endodontic surgeries with precision.

What happens during an Endodontic Surgery (Apicoectomy)?

During endodontic surgery, a small incision is created in the gum tissue near the affected tooth. The infected tissue, along with the overlying bone and root tip (apex), is surgically removed. To prevent future contamination, the root end is sealed with a filling material. Stitches or sutures are then applied to support gum healing and are usually taken out a few days later.
